Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know, and what to expect when our team comes out.

How much does furnace installation cost?

Furnace installation costs depend on the type of furnace (gas or electric), the efficiency rating (AFUE), the size of the unit, and any ductwork modifications needed. Above + Beyond provides a detailed, transparent estimate after an in-home evaluation.

While a high-efficiency furnace costs more upfront, it can significantly reduce your monthly heating bills. Our technicians help you weigh upfront cost against long-term savings to find the best value.

How do you determine the right furnace size for my home?

Above + Beyond's technicians perform a Manual J load calculation that factors in your home's square footage, insulation levels, window area, ceiling height, and climate zone to determine the correct furnace size in BTUs.

Proper sizing is critical — an oversized furnace short-cycles (wasting energy and wearing out faster), while an undersized unit runs constantly without reaching the set temperature. We get it right the first time.

What AFUE rating should I look for in a new furnace?

AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) measures how efficiently a furnace converts fuel to heat. Standard efficiency furnaces are 80% AFUE, while high-efficiency models reach 95-98% AFUE. Higher AFUE means lower heating bills.

Above + Beyond installs furnaces across the efficiency spectrum and helps you calculate the energy savings of upgrading to a high-efficiency model. The right choice depends on your budget, climate, and how long you plan to stay in your home.

What furnace brands do you install?

Above + Beyond installs furnaces from all major brands including Carrier, Lennox, Trane, Goodman, Rheem, and others. We are not locked into a single manufacturer, which means we recommend the best unit for your needs and budget, not the one with the highest commission.

Each brand offers a range of efficiency levels and features. Our technicians explain the differences and help you select a furnace backed by a strong manufacturer warranty.

How long does furnace installation take?

A standard furnace replacement typically takes one day. If the installation involves new ductwork, a change in fuel type, or a complete system redesign, the project may take two days. Above + Beyond provides a clear timeline during the estimate.

We handle old unit removal, new installation, thermostat setup, and a comprehensive startup test all in the scheduled timeframe. Our goal is to have your new furnace heating your home by the end of the installation day.

Should I choose a gas or electric furnace?

Gas furnaces are generally more cost-effective to operate in colder climates because natural gas is less expensive per BTU than electricity. Electric furnaces have lower upfront costs, require less maintenance, and are the only option for homes without a gas line.

Above + Beyond's technicians evaluate your home's existing infrastructure, fuel availability, and heating demands to recommend the best option. We install both gas and electric furnaces and can explain the cost comparison for your specific situation.
