A sump pump sits in a pit (sump basin) at the lowest point of your basement or crawl space. When groundwater rises and fills the pit, a float switch activates the pump, which pushes water through a discharge pipe to a safe drainage location away from your foundation.

How often should I maintain my sump pump?

We recommend testing your sump pump at least once per quarter by pouring water into the pit to trigger the float switch. Annual professional maintenance should include cleaning the pit, checking the discharge line, testing the check valve, and inspecting the pump motor.

Do I need a battery backup sump pump?

Robert did an excellent job reviewing our home's annual plumbing maintenance needs (our first since purchasing the home). The inspection was thorough and professional, including the annual water heater flushing.
